Brexit forces prices up for UK Corporate Travel Buyers

Seven months on since Britons voted in the European Referendum, a Business Travel Show poll has revealed that prices have already increased for 16 per cent of corporate travel buyers in Britain. This compares to just 6 per cent across continual Europe.

178 travel buyers - 61 per cent of whom work in the UK – were asked: “What impact will Brexit have on client confidence and buying behaviours?” 11% of buyers on mainland Europe are playing the waiting game and holding off from investing in travel. This compares to just 4% in the UK. 80% of British buyers believe it’s a case of ‘business as usual’, slightly fewer than the 83% in the rest of Europe.
The Business Travel Show, which will take place on 22 to 23 February, at Olympia, London, will be hosting a panel session on Brexit to help buyers understand what it could mean for their travel programme. Panellists on the session will include Rohitesh Dhawan, Director – Brexit Global Centre of Excellence at KPMG, Mark Cuschieri – Chairman of the Institute of Travel Management and Mark Tanzer - Chief Executive of ABTA.
“The UK’s decision to leave the EU has created many questions about the future, and corporate travel is no exception” said David Chapple, event director, Business Travel Show. “Our panel of thought leaders will spell out potential changes to prepare for, both for travel managers based in the UK and those whose companies visit on business.”
178 travel buyers took part in the seventh Business Travel Show annual survey in November 2016. 61 per cent of respondents worked in the UK, 37 per cent in continental Europe. Among the respondent companies, 18% have a travel budget of less than 185,000 euros, 16% of between 186,000 and 1.3 million euros, 28% of between 1.3 million and 12.5 million euros and 28% of over 12.5 million euros.
The Business Travel Show, held annually in London for 23 years, is Europe’s largest specialised exhibition and conference bringing together 7,730 European travel professionals. This long established and reputable event provides business travel buyers and managers with the suppliers, knowledge and contacts to help create and develop successful travel programmes.
